iPhone 17: Everything we know so far
What does next year's iPhone have in store for us?

Apple's "Glowtime" event on September 9 has come and gone, revealing everything there is to know about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. But what about next year?
If the iPhone 16 announcement didn’t excite you, or you're not looking to upgrade just yet, there's still the iPhone 17 to look forward to. While Apple hasn't officially shared any details about the iPhone 17, we can rely on rumors, leaks, and news reports to speculate on what's to come.
Fortunately, there are already a few details circulating about the upcoming iPhone 17. Let’s dive in and see what we know so far.
A New Model?
One of the most exciting rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 is the potential introduction of a new model to the lineup. Multiple sources, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and The Information, suggest that Apple may ditch the Plus model in favor of a new, slimmer iPhone. This device has been referred to as the "iPhone 17 Slim" or "iPhone 17 Air," though its official name remains unconfirmed.
This slimmed-down iPhone is expected to be significantly thinner than current models, featuring a display between 6.5 and 6.6 inches. However, details are still scarce, and sources differ on its exact positioning. *The Information* claims it will be the most premium and expensive phone in the lineup, while Kuo disagrees, stating that won't be the case. We'll have to wait for more details to emerge.
ProMotion for All
As Apple often does with new iPhone generations, features previously exclusive to Pro models may make their way to the base versions. The next likely candidate? ProMotion. Stay tuned for more updates on this feature as we get closer to the iPhone 17's release.
According to MacRumors, all four iPhone 17 models will feature 120Hz refresh rates thanks to ProMotion display technology. This is a godsend that is not quite on the same level as Apple finally adding USB-C ports to iPhones, but it's not far off, either. Apple's base-level iPhones have been stuck on 60Hz displays for years, while competitors like Google have bumped even their budget handsets up past 90hz or more.
It's one of the main ways in which base model iPhones have felt outdated for a while, so ideally, Apple will fix this soon.

A19 Chips
Details on the A19 chip are scarce, but based on Apple's pattern, it's safe to assume that the company will include a faster, more powerful chip in its upcoming Pro iPhone models. For instance, the iPhone 16 Pro models feature the new A18 Pro chip this year. Following this trend, the iPhone 17 is likely to get an A19 chip, though it may only appear in the Pro models, with the standard iPhone 17 receiving a slightly older version. Of course, Apple is known for its surprises, so we can't say for certain what their chip strategy will be next year.
Improved Selfie Camera
iPhone selfies are already pretty good, but they could always be better. Rumors suggest the iPhone 17 will improve front-facing camera performance. Analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors) predicts that all four new iPhone 17 models will feature a 24MP selfie camera, a significant upgrade from the 12MP on the iPhone 16. While we don't yet know how much of a difference this will make in real-world use, it's a notable jump in resolution.

Other Camera Upgrades
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will introduce a triple-camera system with 48MP lenses for the first time. The wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses will all feature 48MP sensors, an upgrade from the 12MP telephoto lens on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. This would represent a significant leap forward in the rear camera capabilities of the iPhone.
